1) First of all, I do apologise for the "punk rocker" definition misunderstanding. I should have added "maybe"... I take it right back!!!
2) I never said that you did not come from "a place of love". I don't know you. I was just sharing on what I sensed from that "specific" post alone. I sensed wrong maybe? Possible..
3) I have no problems with Vinnie releasing a video. I look forward to it as a matter of fact. The clone issue for me is not a big issue. That's why I added "maybe"... Of course I view the clips on HOD and enjoy them as well. What I was getting at was that even if a drummer don't have any means to view clips, go on-line, etc., (no computer, no Internet access, for exemple), is he goin to be worst off? I don't think so.That's why I included the Bruford exemple. So the fact that there may be less material of Vinnie than Dave W. is not the end of the world. I respect him no matter what decision he chooses. Vinnie is free NOT to make a video if he does not want to. Freedom of choice is found in America, that's what I meant. Some serious cats when giving private lessons charge extra money (lots more I heard) when the student wants to videotape the lesson.
I am still learning as far as communicating properly in forums like HOD, sometimes I wish I was more clear in what I write.
In the meantime, all the best in your prof carreer in Vancouver. Since you're right into the Music Business, I sure hope you cross Vinnie face-to-face and get his feelings on the matter first hand, as to why he thinks that way he does. If you do, come and share them with us on HOD. And who knows, maybe you'll be able to change his mind too!!! LOL!! [img]wink.gif[/img]

PS - hey, guys...i don't necessarily think that this automatically makes Vinnie a "millionaire"...really, the awful truth i have to break to ya's is that some of those name artists that HIRE him ARE, even tho 1/2 the time, on a musicianship level, he's beyond a lot of 'em [img]wink.gif[/img] [i didn't say ALL of 'em]...
Yes, he's very much in demand & prob can make a decent living/survive [because he's SO GOOD - a 1-to-3 take wonder who can sight-read "fly-poop" w/out ever having seen the music prior - his rep precedes himself...u could prob dip all your fingers in an ink jar & fling it at some sheet music 6 ft away, & he could still sight-burn it down]... but the life of a sideman "ain't necessarily no picnic, know what i'm shayin'?" He does well, I'm sure [altho i hardly think he's a quote/unquote "millionaire"] - u guys'd be AMAZED at what a sideman/session guy, even a great 1, makes yearly [not bad, but prob not well as ya might think]; altho Vinnie prob does quote/unquote "OK" between sessions, tours, & clubs; but it's a hustle 4 him, i'm sure....

i know this topic is startin[?!] to smolder, but i'll have to say this...
VC has every right, IMHO, to feel the way he does about this matter...OTOH, i feel that he should maybe also lighten up just a little bit[?] [not that he has to do ANY darn thing i say!]...it's prob safe to say that most of the guys who r tryin to emulate him r nowhere NEAR to threatening his level [like me!], & the guys that ARE at [or-nearly-at [img]wink.gif[/img] ] his level [like Weckl, Virg, etc] r way to busy setting their own boundaries & 'trends,' sayin what THEY have to say, to worry about the ol Vinmeister...despite the fact that i know these guys check each other out from time to time, even sharing the stage w/ each other frequently at events...like some1 said [Nikk; Help?] - "it goes w/ the territory"...i think we should honor these guys & give them the respect of their space; but then again, let's not be SO serious to the point of alienation [altho VC is just that - 1 of the CEOs of the drummers' "Alien Nation" [img]wink.gif[/img] ]...u know, u have to "be SERIOUS [about what it is that u do], but not be SO SERIOUS" [to the point that it'll kill ya & every1 else]...[then again, u KNOW that he has to deal w/ a lot of the CLOWNS who r out there]...
But besides that, by the time we "mere mortals" attain a reasonable facsimile of that level, he'll prob be back in diapers [as will we!!] - but that all depends... lol

here's my quick gossipy speculation on the event:
I would gatagorize vinnie as sombody who is dedicated to detail. Ive noticed that with alot of detail orientated people, they can be very unhappy if the smallest things are wrong to them. None of us see HIS bigger musical picture. I think he doesnt want to be miss-represented on bootlegs as bootlegs remove him of content control.
alot of people writting on this board think they can say "for sure" that vinnie should or shouldn't be taped.
I almost confess to confusion on this debate except for one overiding factor: If he doesnt want to be taped, he doesn't want to be taped. We like him dont we? so there for we respect his views on content control right?
Who else loved that steve vai story?! i did...
